Mmmm….Salad. Again. (a.k.a. Weight Loss Challenge, Part 4)

Weight Loss Challenge

Yes, I am still trying to lose my baby weight, and yes, my son is three.

The good news is that I have made progress. There are 8 more pounds of me gone now – hopefully never to return – at least not until after Thanksgiving. The bad news is that I love (and don’t plan on resisting) pumpkin pie. Luckily, I have learned to enjoy the foods I love in moderation, which, for me, was the missing link in all previous attempts to shed the weight.

Oh, and did I mention that this last 8 pounds is IT??? As in, success? As in, no more baby weight for me? I finally did it! Now the trick will be keeping it off…again. Considering I’d like to have another child, that’s not very likely but I’m trying anyway.

For the loss of these final 8 pounds (until next time) I’d like to give a little shout out to my Epicure girlfriends, Sheri Binsell and Shari White, who got me hooked on Epicure’s “A Healthier You” package in Weight Loss Challenge- Part 3 , and to my good friend Katherine, who encourages me to walk even when I’d rather be eating guacamole.

In celebration of reaching my goal, I have put together a little poem. As I firmly believe in always taking the high road, it is in honour of my arch nemesis, the salad. (Which, by the way, I won’t have to eat tons of anymore, thanks to the easy to follow plan I got from Epicure!):

Ode to Greens

Day One- I don’t mind you at all,
Your crisp and tender leaves
Day Two- Still good, I will eat you
For lunch, and in the eves
Day Three- Not bad, I’m losing weight
I hope it won’t come back
Day Four- Is somewhat like a chore
I really want a snack
Day Five- You’re losing your appeal
But I’ll stick to my guns
Day Six- I’d love a sugar fix
(But that won’t help my buns)
Day Seven- Bored with you by now
Your browning leaves are wilted
Day Eight- I want to lose the weight
But tired of feeling jilted
Day Nine- That’s it! I’m sick of this
And herein ends my ballad
Day Ten- I’m doing it (again!)
I’m giving up on SALAD!!!!!

Weight Loss Challenge- It’s not too late to join us!

I’m not doing it alone! There are several Mums ‘n Chums members who have joined me in the quest to lose weight! How about you? It can’t be easier!

There are no rules or timelines in the Weight Loss Challenge- use whatever means works best for you and do it for as long as you need to in order to reach your goal. In the meantime, join in on the convo on our Facebook page (look for the thread titled “Weight Loss Challenge”) to track your progress and find friendly support. When you reach your goal (yay, you!), stay in touch and get support while you work on maintaining it. Then, get ready to party- a special Girl’s Night, complete with a great prize, is in the works now to help us celebrate our successes! Details will be posted on the blog soon!

I founded Mums 'n Chums in 2009 after realizing that the area I live in was drastically underserviced as compared to surrounding areas for support and activities for growing families. Mums 'n Chums grew popular very quickly and I have been dedicated to nurturing that growth through frequent networking, social media engagement and in person meetups. By the end of its first year, Mums 'n Chums had close to 500 members and was receiving regular inquiries from fans outside of its service area, asking when we would be expanding to serve them as well. After much careful research and polling, I expanded the site in May of 2011 to cover the entire North end of the GTA (from Cambridge to Markham), areas I believe are still receiving far less attention than they deserve from other sites and family services. We also changed the focus from small scale local mom and tot meetups to more of an informative purpose, closing down our forum and adding several talented contributors to the blog. We do still offer several large scale family events per year, such as our popular Birthday Bash events and our Holiday Bash in December. Our contests have also become a member favourite, and we strive to offer amazing prizes from trusted brands like Babies R Us, La Roche Posay, Johnson's Baby and many more. In March of 2016, after months of work spent migrating all of the site's content to a new platform, Mums 'n Chums re-launched with its fresh, new look. The changes and expansion have proven a great success and we're still getting inquiries from several other cities within the Greater Toronto Area, whom we have decided to serve as well. I have built this site and its' reputation carefully and look forward to continuing its growth!
