Erin Hainey, Dave Brown and their two small daughters have been through an overwhelming ordeal after losing everything they own in a devastating house fire on September 4th. With a new baby on the way and the daunting task of having to start their lives over again, we felt it was time to help them move forward on a positive note!
The community of the Town of Milton has pulled together and shown amazing generosity since word started to spread about the fire. Already the Hainey-Brown family has been given most of the household items they’ll need to get settled in their temporary home while the insurance company works on their claim. According to Erin, they have been receiving over 70 e mails and countless phone calls a day from concerned residents offering assistance.
“It’s amazing how grateful you can feel after something so devastating. We want everyone to know that all they’ve done means more than the house, clothes, car that we lost…everything. Every single little thing that was donated- even a toothbrush for one of our daughters- gave me one less thing to worry about as a mom.” says Erin.
While it is touching and incredible that so much has been done, it’s clear after a conversation with Erin that they have a long way to go. Their daughters, 8 and 2 1/2, are suffering from stresses of losing all that was familiar to them, including their beloved cat. For mom and dad, the worry is from learning that Erin will probably not be able to meet the required number of hours at work in order to qualify for maternity benefits. 9 months pregnant and 120 hours short after needing time off to deal with the crisis, Erin is considering trying to complete it depsite her doctor’s orders. Otherwise, they face the unplanned reality of raising 3 small children on only Dave’s income.
Knowing this, we understand the community still wants to help and that despite their humble ways, the Hainey-Brown family could use it. This family deserves the ability to focus on the positives in their life and celebrate the fresh start that their new baby will bring. So, Mums ‘n Chums, along with a long list of other great businesses in the Milton area, have decided to do something about it!
Announcing the official Baby Welcoming and Thank You Party for the Hainey-Brown family! The public is invited to this casual, open-house style party celebrating a new beginning (and a precious new baby boy!).
: Rattlesnake Point Golf and Country Club- 5407 Regional Road 25, Milton, ON L9T 2X5, Phone: (905)878-6222
: Sunday, September 26th, 2010 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Erin Hainey and Dave Brown will be on hand and are eager to meet and thank community members who have reached out during this difficult time. Refreshments, cake and sweets will be provided. In lieu of bringing gifts or donations to the party, a “giving tree” will be set up at the event where you will be able to write any items you would like to donate on a piece of paper with your contact information. If the items offered are ones the family still needs, you will be contacted to arrange a pick up or drop off. Regardless, please know that Erin and Dave gratefully appreciate any and all offers that are being made.
Monetary donations are still appreciated as well, and those wishing to give can do so by giving to the trust account in the Family’s name at the Milton Scotiabank at 880 Main St. East (at Thompson). Sandy Vipond of Milton Scotiabank tells us if you would like to make a donation you may do so by going to the Thompson and Main St. Branch or any Scotiabank location. The Hainey / Brown trust account number is 78006-01460-21.
