Sexually Inspiring or a Hypocrite? Weekend after weekend, party after party, I hear the same thing…… “WOW! Your husband must be one happy guy!!!”.

I always laugh , but deep down I know the truth.

The truth is, my marriage was just like that of most of the women sitting in that living room. We have a good marriage. We love each other very much and we are committed, however the passion has somehow been lost under 15 years together, 2 children, jobs, facebook, text messages, blah, blah, blah.

But not THIS year!!! 2012 is going be different! 2012 IS GOING TO BE THE YEAR OF PASSION!

This got me to thinking- what are the things we did BEFORE we lost the “Passion”…a.k.a. before “Kids”. And then, a very rare & perfect opportunity happened….my mother-in-law had generously offered to take BOTH kids overnight on New Years Eve. You had better believe we JUMPED at the chance!

24 hours KIDFREE, on New Years Eve…….the possibilities were endless!!!!!!! We started to run through the list of options:

  • Mel Lastman Square
  • Hotel at Niagara Falls
  • Big house party at friend’s place
  • Big house party at our place
  • Anything that included fireworks, confetti, champagne, and over-priced tickets

Yet, as I envisioned each of those scenarios, nowhere in there did I visualize my husband and I “connecting”…..just a vision of waking up the next day over-tired & hungover.

So, we kept it simple.

Dinner reservations were made at our favourite little local Italian restaurant, Osso Bucco. EARLY dinner reservations. I splurged on a new red dress, sassy, suede knee-high boots and manicure. Za-Zoom!

After a delicious dinner and a few glasses of wine, we went home, dropped the sexy dress on the floor, and did our best to duplicate what every “young, dating, just falling in love couple” does…..we grabbed our snowpants & toboggan!!!!

I can’t tell you how much fun we had squishing ourselves on that teeny red sled and zipping down the hill behind the local school. The hill was deserted. It was just him, me, and a thousand stars in the sky above.

The next 20 hours were pure perfection. Wine. Movie. “Snuggles” on the couch. Sleeping in. No Facebook distractions. No Blackberry interruptions. No kids’ temper tantrums.

I love our children, and I love our life with children…..but that evening with my husband was the BEST in almost a decade. I now see how important it is, for the sake of our marriage, to sometimes just take it back to basics.

I founded Mums 'n Chums in 2009 after realizing that the area I live in was drastically underserviced as compared to surrounding areas for support and activities for growing families. Mums 'n Chums grew popular very quickly and I have been dedicated to nurturing that growth through frequent networking, social media engagement and in person meetups. By the end of its first year, Mums 'n Chums had close to 500 members and was receiving regular inquiries from fans outside of its service area, asking when we would be expanding to serve them as well. After much careful research and polling, I expanded the site in May of 2011 to cover the entire North end of the GTA (from Cambridge to Markham), areas I believe are still receiving far less attention than they deserve from other sites and family services. We also changed the focus from small scale local mom and tot meetups to more of an informative purpose, closing down our forum and adding several talented contributors to the blog. We do still offer several large scale family events per year, such as our popular Birthday Bash events and our Holiday Bash in December. Our contests have also become a member favourite, and we strive to offer amazing prizes from trusted brands like Babies R Us, La Roche Posay, Johnson's Baby and many more. In March of 2016, after months of work spent migrating all of the site's content to a new platform, Mums 'n Chums re-launched with its fresh, new look. The changes and expansion have proven a great success and we're still getting inquiries from several other cities within the Greater Toronto Area, whom we have decided to serve as well. I have built this site and its' reputation carefully and look forward to continuing its growth!
